Day 1 on the Elodie - Amsterdam

We boarded the Elodie barge today at 2pm and met up with the rest of our group.  We were greeted by our captain Wamme,  the chef Sander, and our guide Nico.  After unloading our bags in our cabins, we met in the dining room for a "low down" of the trip.   Next we headed up top for our bike assignments.  Right about then it started to downpour rain.  Nico took us on a 10k ride to familiarize us with the bikes, which are awesome.   I'm glad we will be riding mostly through the country, as the bikes, motorbikes and cars in the city are insane.  I've always heard that Amsterdam has a lot of bikes, but had no idea how many.   I'm talking thousands...and everyone rides like a Seattle bike messenger during rush hour!   Here's a picture of us, with Nico, "picture-bombing".  When we returned, we had a wonderful dinner followed by an evening stroll through the infamous red light district.  If felt creepy...not so much about what it is, as the fact everyone flocks there to see it.  Anyway, back to the cabin and snuggled in for the night.  30 miles planned for tomorrow!
