Day 7 on the Elodie - Ghent to Bruges

The gas leak or whatever it was over Ghent had dissipated by morning and the barge sailed into town about 9am.  We hopped on the bikes and peddled into town.  It is an interesting town and fairly quiet on a Saturday morning.  We parked the bikes and agreed to meet back after an hour of exploring.  We saw a castle, churches, great architecture, wedding parties and local vendors setting up for the day.  After our break, we set off on our final ride to Bruges.  After numerous wrong turns, map consulting, and riding through cow pastures, finally got on the right track.  Nico said the roads had been renumbered since the last tour and he didn't have a current map.  We visited a funny bike museum which was hysterical...everyone had a great time.  We continued on, stopping for a coffee break before arriving at the barge about 4:30 pm.  I felt sad as we walked our bikes on board for the last time.  After a rough start to the week, I am sad to be leaving.  We all showered and shined and headed into town.  Doug and I joined Brenda and Dorrie for dinner in the square, then checked out our hotel for tomorrow night and visited the attached Rose Red Bar, which is super cute.  After sampling local wine beer and chocolate,  we are back aboard the Elodie for our final sleep.  Tomorrow we say goodbye to Wamme, Sander, and Nico and head into Bruges for the next 2 days...after that...who knows?!  Mark and Gail are headed to Germany, the Fancher family to England, as well as Tori,  Alicia and Shirley.  Jay and Debby are headed to Normandy, and Joanne and Larry back to Ghent and Reykjavik.  Brenda, Dorrie,  and Marietta will travel to Paris.  I can't wait to meet up with everyone again soon to hear about their adventures!
